Development projects in certain parts of southern Ontario are subject to additional requirements established through provincial legislation. If you are looking to build on the Oak Ridges Moraine, Greenbelt, Niagara Escarpment, or Lake Simcoe watershed, you may be asked by your local municipality or Conservation Authority to provide a technical study called a Natural Heritage Evaluation to aid in the review process. An NHE report typically includes a description and characterization of on-site natural features (e.g., woodlands, wetlands, rivers/streams, etc.) and habitats, examination of the development proposed, recommendations to avoid and/or minimize environmental impact, and a determination of whether or not relevant laws and policies have been addressed. Terrastory routinely prepares NHE reports in municipalities such as Caledon, King, Richmond Hill, Stouffville, East Gwillimbury, Uxbridge and others, often in combination with Hydrological Evaluations or Oak Ridges Moraine Conformity Statements.
